BARI – The total fines imposed on the driver of a truck with Turkish license plates, checked by the local police officers of Bari as part of road safety and territory monitoring activities carried out with the personnel of the Motorization Department, amount to 14,554 euros.

The man is accused of violating the articles relating to driving times and of using driving cards illegally. According to the checks, the man was not only in possession of Turkish and Bulgarian identity documents but also of a double tachograph card that would have allowed him not to respect the rules that define the number of driving hours and rest hours. The truck driver would have alternated the use of the two cards, managing to exceed the maximum driving times and evade the checks.

This was confirmed by comparing the data recorded by the digital tachograph of the articulated lorry with those recorded by the driver cards in the possession of the man who would have managed to drive for almost 17 hours, becoming “a danger both for road safety and for other road users”, a note from the local police in Bari highlights. In addition to the fines, the man was not only stripped of his driving licence “for suspension purposes” but also one of the two tachograph cards “unduly obtained”, the officers report.
