The first house Harry and Meghan lived in after their wedding was Frogmore Cottage: before leaving, Meghan made a shocking discovery.
When Harry and Meghan married in 2018, they received the permission to live in one of the Royal Residences, precisely the Frogmore Cottage. It was about a rather modest accommodation compared to the grandeur of the other royal residences. The house, in fact, had only five bedrooms and overall it wasn’t in great condition.
To make it more modern and more suited to their needs, Harry and Meghan undertook a major overhaul of the cottage: it was about works which lasted for several months and cost at least £3 million. What made the English turn up their noses was the fact that the works were paid for with state money, that is, with the money derived from citizens’ taxes. This is a custom in England, and certainly should not make the news. What infuriated the English, however, is that in 2020, that is, just a few months after having spent a lot of money to renovate the house, Harry and Meghan left the Royal Family and started a new life in the States.

The two were obliged to completely vacate the dwelling as soon as possible, in order to make it available again for the needs of the Crown. The Queen’s intention was in fact to grant the use of the cottage to her granddaughter Eugenie, who married a few months after the Sussexes.

It was then that Meghan found her diary in a drawer of what had been her first home with Harry. “I was very surprised by what I had written in there” Meghan confessed in an interview that perhaps she had feared (the most malicious would say “hoped”) a leak. What would have happened if the newspapers had discovered what the Duchess wrote in her Diary? One can only say that, if it was abandoned for two years on the other side of the ocean, perhaps it did not contain such important information.
