Luigi Carella was arrested at first light by the police, 51 years old, considered by investigators to be a top member of the Ricciardi clan from Naples. The man, taken to prison, is seriously suspected of mafia-type association, extortion committed with the aim of facilitating the Licciardi clan and of the crime of illicit access to devices suitable for communication by detained individuals. Carella is considered the lieutenant of the Secondigliano Alliance at the head of the criminal group that controls the Berlingieri district of Naples and which would be headed by Maria Licciardi, sister of the deceased Gennaro, among the founders of the clan of the same name. Maria Licciardi, known as ‘to Piccirellajust a year ago she was sentenced for the first time as a boss and not as an affiliate to a sentence of 12 years and 8 months in prison.
Carella was arrested this morning by the Carabinieri of the Investigative Unit of Naples, with the collaboration in the executive phase of the staff of the Investigative Unit of Castello di Cisterna and of the Carabinieri Company of Naples Stella. According to investigators he is a top element of the Licciardi clan, part of the so-called “Secondigliano Alliance” and which operates mainly in the northern districts of Naples, between Masseria Cardone, the Berlingieri district and the Don Guanella district, but also in the Vasto, the district of the historic center immediately behind the Central Station of Naples. Carella is also seriously accused not only of extortion with the aggravating circumstance of having favored the clan, but also of the crime of undue access to devices suitable for communication by detained individuals.
