In Modica Local Police and State Police against “loud” scooters

The Local Police and the Public Safety Commissioner have launched a joint service to combat the phenomenon of the so-called “fracassoni”, young people who drive mopeds that do not comply with the regulations, generating noise and creating a danger to public safety. The control operations involved the Pizzo district, the Ortisiana ring road and Corso San Giorgio.

Reports from citizens, tired of the constant passage of noisy mopeds, have been numerous in recent days. These vehicles are not only annoying, but also potentially dangerous for traffic. During the checks, various sanctions were imposed on young scooter riders, often minors, who disturbed the public peace. In total, ten fines were issued for nuisance behaviour.

Penalties for excessively noisy mopeds vary between 41 and 168 euros. Many of these vehicles have been found with tampered mufflers, an alteration intended to increase engine performance but cause greater noise. Furthermore, the local police ordered the administrative detention of six mopeds that were traveling at high speed along Corso Garibaldi on just one wheel, highlighting dangerous behaviour.

These checks were organized in agreement with the Police Commissioner Vincenzo Trombadore and the Mayor Maria Monisteri. The operations will continue in the next few days to guarantee greater safety and tranquility for residents, further combating the phenomenon of “noisy scooters”.
