Just let love strike you

It opens on Thursday 27 June at 6pm, in three rooms of the Real Albergo delle Povere, in Palermothe exhibition Just let love strike you– title that quotes an intense lyric by the poet Salvatore Quasimodo – conceived and edited by Helga Marsala for Rice. Regional Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art of Palermo. A project that revolves around the nature of the photographic image, related to the strength of poetic verse: conceived as an open and evolving atlas, in which contemporary poetry and photography coexist, “Just let love strike you” brings together the research of some Sicilian artists and poets, including masters, middle-generation and emerging authors: all different figures, dialectically connected according to subtle correspondences, by contrast or by assonance. In their gazes the substance of that “plural island” echoes, admirably told by Gesualdo Bufalino. The exhibition will be open until September 13th.

«Italo Calvino urged us to “fight the abstractness of language” at the beginning of this century. And so, among the other objectives and meanings that everyone can attribute to the exhibition conceived and curated by Helga Marsala for the Museum – says the director of the Riso Museum, Evelina De Castro this is also appreciated, in both directions: the visual works and the literary works, born according to their own autonomous language, acquire meaning in the exhibition by finding themselves combined, so as to mutually “mean” even where their form and style could be defined as abstract. From the interpretation of Egyptian hieroglyphics to Jesuit emblems, the theme of “text and image” is constant in the history of culture. In a time and latitude closer to us, from the magazine Paragone (1950) to Gruppo 63, established in Palermo in 1963, from conceptual art to the most current research, the theme continues to stimulate critics, historians, curators, artists, with incursions and hybridizations. In this continuum the exhibition proposes a path that sees the curator/art critic mix images and texts, whose new identity consists in being two parts of a single».
