Rimini: “Interdependence Festival” on the occasion of the Fight Against Drugs Day

On the occasion of the International Day to Fight Drugs, the Pope John XXIII Community organizes the “Interdependence Festival” in Rimini. The event, which will be held from 4pm to 6.30pm in Campo Don Pippo, in via S.Cristina, will involve guests of the therapeutic facilities, young people, the authorities and interested citizens.

Teo Vignoli, director of the SerD of Rimini, underlines the increase in the use of synthetic opiates and cases of gambling addiction: «It is a subtle, tolerated addiction, the risks of which are minimized and for which, for fear of being stigmatized, it is difficult to ask for help – and explains -. Almost 3,000 people have accessed our SerD in 2023. Those who come to us mainly have alcoholism, heroin and cocaine problems. A local trend certainly in line with the national one».

Rimini, a city of entertainment, has always cultivated its supportive nature. Historical communities known throughout Italy were born here, committed to the recovery of people with addiction problems. Vignoli adds: «We are the Italian city with the largest number of therapeutic proposals aimed at people who are victims of addictions, in the country that has the largest number of them in the world. In our area there is a very wide variability of responses; it is a very precious resource in the face of a vast, submerged and continually increasing phenomenon».

Precisely in Rimini, where it was historically born, the Pope John XXIII Community will make its contribution on the occasion of the International Day to Fight Drugs on 26 June. “It concerns us” is the slogan chosen for the “Interdependence Festival”: an appeal not to underestimate the risks, to unite ideas and experiences.

The program includes testimonies from people involved in the problem of addictions and who have undertaken a journey of rebirth, live music, poetry. The participation of some representatives of the institutions of Rimini is expected, at the moment they have joined the councilor for youth policies, Francesca Mattei, and the vicar of the Diocese Don Maurizio Fabbri. Possible greeting expected from the Rimini police commissioner, Dr. Abbate. The festival is sponsored by the Municipality of Rimini and the Diocese of Rimini.

Free entry. A small final buffet is planned at 6.30 pm upon reservation by email by 25/06 [email protected].
