Late yesterday evening, the Operations Center of the Bolzano Police Headquarters received a request for help via the emergency number “112 NUE”. A man, who was in via Combattenti, reported having been harassed and attacked by a group of boys.

The police officers, who quickly arrived at the indicated location, found no trace of the reported young people. In an attempt to clarify what had happened, they began to question the alleged victim, whose account quickly turned out to be confusing and contradictory. This behavior led the police to verify the man’s identity. To their great surprise, they discovered that it was MG, a 67-year-old from Bolzano with numerous criminal records.

A history of crimes and a pending prison order

MG was not a new face to law enforcement. His past includes crimes of receiving stolen goods, resisting a public official, personal injury, theft, aggravated theft, residential burglary, unjustified possession of altered keys or lock picks and housebreaking. But the most significant discovery was that a prison order was pending against him. The General Prosecutor’s Office of the Republic of Venice had recently issued an arrest warrant for a sentence of 1 year and 8 months for a case of receiving stolen goods in Veneto.

A Famous Face in Piazza Mazzini

MG was often seen bivouacking and creating disturbances in Piazza Mazzini. Last May, he was hit by a personal prevention measure, an oral warning issued by the Police Commissioner of the Province of Bolzano, Paolo Sartori. This measure arose from an episode in which MG, driving his car, evaded a police check, causing injuries to a municipal police officer.

Arrest and Detention

Once the judicial police activity was concluded, MG was arrested and taken to the local prison, where he will serve the expected sentence. An episode that demonstrates how, sometimes, even those seeking help can find themselves facing the weight of their past sins.
