In his gym, in the Casal Bruciato neighborhood of Rome, he created one of the most advanced centers for studying and practicing MMA, or mixed martial arts. But since she cares about the spread of this sport, often a victim of prejudice, she cannot help but travel around Italy to meet young talents. Lorenzo Borgomeo, 45 years old, now head coach of our national team, father of “Aurora Mma”, a past as a fighter (also on American soil), decided to meet the boys (and a girl) of the Scorpion Team, from Perugia, in the of one of the internships that he organizes at least once a month. Guest of master Luigi Zanini, in the Kennedy gym, he tried to convey some teachings coming from the world of professional MMA. «I’m honest: I didn’t expect such a positive response, says Borgomeo, followed by his partner Monica Serani, stylist, among other things, for Laura Pausini. Many kids came, some well-prepared, certainly all eager to learn something». Among the participants, there is also Federico Rotoni, from Perugia and influencer, certainly among the most popular in this geographical area among those who practice mixed martial arts. MMA is not a sport for everyone. They require truly remarkable physical preparation and, above all, a “head” that knows how to manage the transition between the different disciplines contained therein: from boxing to Ju Jitzu to grappling. The most difficult aspect is to make all the different movements and techniques your own and adopt them automatically, without having to think.

In Rome, at the “Aurora” headquarters, Borgomeo trains around 150 kids (while at a national level we are talking about twenty thousand athletes), and among these there are the most promising names in this field.

The same ones that Borgomeo accompanies in the most important tournaments, starting with the Cage Warriors which is the basis of the boom of this discipline. «On July 20th the Roman Michele Martignoni will be in London for a special tournament: he will fight two matches in one evening, and by winning both he could win 50 thousand dollars». Again, again in July, it will be the turn of Simone Patrizi, known as the Shark, who will enter the cage in Manchester, together with Dylan Hazan, Matteo Martignoni and Giuseppe Matrogiacomo.

But the most ambitious project for this summer, which Borgomeo also spoke about in Perugia, is a special summer camp in Cesenatico: «From 5 to 10 August there will be the best coaches in the sector, starting with the legend Kami Barzini, for Andrea Lavaggi, Massimo Farina and Massimo Rizzoli explains the coach. We will have an entire hall at our disposal and we will be able to immerse ourselves in the study of this sport.” And if more and more kids are approaching MMA, there is still a “booster” missing, a push for them to become truly popular: «I’m thinking of a television series, a mega event says Borgomeo and I’m sure it will come. I perceive great attention and I think that Italy, from this point of view, has great potential.”
