Raise the quality of life of the population, promote sociability especially among young people, develop those factors that can counteract phenomena of addiction and violence, encourage the spread of behaviors oriented towards respecting the rules. These are the objectives set by the National Operational Program “Io Gioco Legale”, an initiative promoted by the Ministry of the Interior which sees sports practice as a very valid tool for individual growth. A concept which is also fully adhered to by the Administration led by Mayor Rinaldo Melucci, which has long been committed to implementing a series of interventions aimed at providing citizens with meeting centers for carrying out sporting and recreational activities. This was the context that saw the creation of the multipurpose facility in the “Talsano-Tramontone” district, the brand new structure that will be inaugurated on Monday 24 June, at 10.00, by the mayor Melucci, the branch councilor Cosimo Ciraci and the managers of the Public Works Directorate of the Municipality of Taranto which was responsible for the design of the infrastructure.
The sports complex, among the most modern and functional in the South, which has seen an economic commitment of close to 610 thousand euros, is located in via Mediterraneo on an area of 4 thousand square meters and will be able to host the holding of sports disciplines such as “5-a-side football ”, basketball, volleyball, handball and tennis as well as sports that take place mainly indoors such as gymnastics, wrestling, weightlifting, judo, boxing and fencing.
“The inauguration of the multipurpose sports complex in the “Talsano-Tramontone” district“- declared Mayor Melucci– represents not only an architectural achievement, but the tangible symbol of our commitment as an Administration towards the promotion of health, well-being and social cohesion. We firmly believe that sport is a powerful tool for raising the quality of life, especially among young people, and for developing a stronger and more united community. This new plant, one of the most modern and functional in Southern Italy, represents a significant investment not only in economic terms, but above all in terms of social capital. But it’s not just sport we celebrate; it is the resilience, determination and respect for the rules that sport teaches. It is the fight against addiction and violence, and the promotion of a healthy and active lifestyle. It’s the chance to see our young people grow and develop into strong, capable and respectful individuals.”
