The Trofeo delle Regioni-Aequilibrium Cup in Corigliano Rossano comes to an end. An important experience for volleyball players from Liguria, with their peers from other regional teams arriving in Calabria from all over Italy. The results of the last day of the event guarantee both teams the possibility of entering pool A. Two paths, both ending in fourteenth place, also conditioned by a draw that was certainly not lucky.

The women’s team of selector Luca Parodi immediately crossed paths with Tuscany and Veneto, who later revealed themselves to be the fourth and fifth forces in the Trophy, and against the Tuscans it was a good battle that ended in the third set. With the move to pool B, clear successes came against Valle D’Aosta and Basilicata, both by two sets to zero, before facing the second day of pool B, characterized by the victory against Molise (2-0) and the defeat arrest, with a similar score, remedied by Trentino. The rematch, against the girls from Trentino, came this morning. 2-0 (25-22 25-18), before losing to Umbria 0-2 (20-25 22-25).

The men’s team of the selector Michele Totire, starting from pool B, made its debut with a success (2-1 against Sardinia) but then surrendered to Abruzzo. Mixed performances also on Tuesday: green light with Valle d’Aosta and red with Trentino. Two important victories against Sardinia and Umbria led to the final round for the assignment of positions from 13th to 15th. Another victory against Alto Adige (25-15 25-16) and a defeat against Trentino (19-25, 24-26) for the final result.

“Girls and boys faced the Regions Trophy with commitment and attachment to the colors of their representative team – says Anna Del Vigo, president of FIPAV Liguria – Our volleyball players fought like lionesses in a very complicated first day, against Venetians and Tuscans, and perhaps the very tough draw deprived them of the possibility of climbing a few more positions in a very level tournament where there were also some surprises with the fall of some giant. Our volleyball players faced some ups and downs, normal for their age, but in certain contexts they were able to regroup and come together in the face of difficulties. Pietro Carrera, called to participate in the Under 17 national team rallies, reconfirmed his value. With much pride and satisfaction, Liguria also participated in the last act of the men’s competition: our Viviana Giacoppo was recognized by all the referee managers as the best whistler of the competition and was rewarded with the designation as first referee of the men’s final. Finally, thanks to all the staff, management and technical, who ends the season here.”
