A day of celebration at the Villa de Riseis park in Pescara, between group games and a snack together. Thus, on Saturday afternoon, in the presence of Mayor Carlo Masci and Roberta Pellegrino, head of the Social Planning and Extraordinary Measures for Welfare Service, the territorial educational service promoted by the Municipality’s Social Policies Department for families who received the Citizenship Income (now Adi – Inclusion Allowance).

The implementation of this project (financed with the 2019 Poverty Fund) was entrusted, following a tender, to the “Orizzonte” cooperative and 14 families benefited from it, for a total of 18 children and teenagers (age range 4 – 15 years). “Each beneficiary family unit was supported by an educator (also in possession of ABA certification)”, explain the municipality’s social worker Teresa Cappiello and the project coordinator for the Orizzonte cooperative Daniela De Angelis, “and each operator collaborated with families to achieve the objectives agreed and shared with parents, children and young people. The objectives mainly concerned the acquisition of autonomy and skills in the scholastic, relational and communication fields. The project saw the involvement of the Child Neuropsychiatry Department of the Local Health Authority and the schools”.

Many activities have been carried out in recent months, from theater workshops to cinema, through frequenting the library, going out to the park, using public transport and the two-week summer camp: by being together the beneficiaries have created a group, having fun together. The questionnaire carried out last month, before the end of the course, revealed great satisfaction among the families and the feedback was very positive for the operators, both for the acquisition of skills by the minors and for the improvement of relationships internal to family units, starting from communication.

“The proximity of the Municipality to families experiencing a difficult phase encompasses a multitude of aspects,” says mayor Carlo Masci. “The institutions cannot limit themselves to helping financially those with economic problems: the support, on our part, also concerns the children, to guarantee a peaceful growth, with healthy relationships within each family. And this project has achieved the objectives for which I can only be satisfied and thank once again the Social Policies sector, always active and proactive, and in this case also the Orizzonte cooperative which supported the families”.
