From yesterday evening, Saturday 22 June, until today morning, Sunday 23 June, the firefighters saved several people on Lake Como. The area, in fact, is hostage to bad weather: strong gusts of wind and consequently major storms have been recorded for days. Many therefore remained stranded in the water.

The gusts of wind reached thirty knots which means they were over that fifty kilometers per hour. Storm surges with waves more than one meter high were recorded. Someone boats remained stranded on cliffs or among trees. In other cases the boats were in trouble and they couldn’t move: they risked colliding with the cliffs. In total, twelve boats were recovered: the operations were coordinated by the operations room of the Salò Coast Guard.

They were 45 people rescued. Thirty-six were saved by two coast guard units and nine by the firefighters, the auxiliary coast guard and the Como air rescue boat. The Coast Guard urges boaters to check their boat’s efficiency, fuel and safety equipment. He also recommends checking the weather and bringing a mobile phone with an internet connection so you can be geolocalised and taken to safety by rescuers.
