Agreement to facilitate the movement of people with visual disabilities in Busto Arsizio

Busto Arsizio, 21 June 2024 – Good news for the citizens of Busto Arsizio who are blind or visually impaired: thanks to a new agreement between the Municipality and some taxi drivers in the city, they will be able to take advantage of a subsidized transport service.

How the service works

The agreement provides for the distribution of “taxi vouchers” worth 6 euros each (5 euros paid by the Municipality and 1 euro paid by the taxi driver) to be used to pay for rides. Each beneficiary will be able to receive up to 50 vouchers per year, which can be used both within the municipality and towards external destinations. The vouchers can be combined up to a maximum of 3 per trip: in the event of an amount exceeding the value of the vouchers, the difference will be borne by the beneficiary.

How to request vouchers

Starting from July 2024, it will be possible to request taxi vouchers by submitting an application to the Municipality accompanied by documentation certifying the visual disability. The application form will be available both in paper format and online on the Municipality’s website.

A commitment to inclusion

The initiative, promoted by the municipal administration also on the proposal of the Italian Union of the Blind and Visually Impaired, represents an important step towards greater social inclusion of people with visual disabilities.

“With this service we want to facilitate the movement of blind and partially sighted citizens, guaranteeing them greater autonomy and independence,” declared the councilor for social inclusion Paola Reguzzoni. “We thank the taxi drivers who joined the agreement with a great spirit of solidarity. In the future, we do not rule out increasing the available budget and extending the service to the municipalities of Valle Olona as well. Furthermore, in collaboration with the Italian Union of the Blind and Visually Impaired, we are working on the creation of a handbook to help people with visual impairments to move more safely and independently.”

An appreciated service

The initiative received the applause of the Disability Manager of the Municipality of Busto Arsizio, who underlined the importance of guaranteeing equal opportunities and accessibility to all citizens.
