An explosion of colors and joy invaded Cosenza with Pride 2024. Over a thousand people, including entire families and many children, paraded along the main streets of the centre, dancing, singing and waving many rainbow flags.
The procession ended in front of the Municipality, which gave its patronage to the event, organized by Arcigay, Arci and CGIL Cosenza and by the “Milly Villa Women’s Studies Center” of the University of Calabria. “After years of obscurantism – said the mayor, Franz Caruso, in his speech – the Municipality participates in ‘Cosenza Pride’. Our Administration, since its inauguration, has expressed its opposition to every form of discrimination and stubbornly reaffirmed the vocation of the city, which is openly tolerant, inclusive, plural, democratic and always fighting for the recognition of everyone’s rights. I am proud to have hosted the ‘Cosenza pride’ and I express my great satisfaction because from this city the voice of those who rightly claim the protection of sacrosanct rights that we share and which we will never miss the opportunity to reiterate and reaffirm”. “The only thing against nature are the southerners who vote for the League” and “Stop genocide, free Palestine” were some of the banners displayed during the demonstration”, with references to the rights of the LGBTIQ+ community, the war in the Middle East, the rights of women and differentiated autonomy. “This is a great success for our city – said Alessandra Lucanto, president of Arcigay Cosenza – which sends a message of resistance to the entire South”.
