The procession – which is not only made up of music, dances and extravagant outfits but also messages for rights, freedom and, this year, also political references – traveled through the city centre, starting from Piazza Monte Grappa and arriving, after having marched through the central streets including the pedestrian center and Corso Matteotti, at the Estensi Gardens. The river of people needed to organize themselves several times to proceed regularly, guided by the Varese Pride float: in one of its first stops it was possible to notice that the crowd had filled the entire Via Volta, which makes the organizers think they had overcome the number of 5000 thousand.

This year the pride also had a godmother: it is Romina Falconi, Roman singer-songwriter with an eclectic and irreverent personalityis an icon of Italian pop music and a passionate activist for the rights of the LGBTQIA+ community.

The day of celebration then continued at the Giardini Estensi with the Pride Night at the Estensi Gardenswith the special guest Chadia Rodriguez – Italian-Moroccan rapper who conquered the Italian music scene with his unique style and his bold lyrics – the DJ set of Cusa DJthe drag queens La Ines, La Safira and Miss Nuit Blancheit’s still Riki Cellini, Effe, Vita Ninja, Croce Atroce, Odette Face, Yrina Polanova, Kilian Lenox.

Varese Pride 2024 is now in its eighth edition, and organized by Arcigay Varese and created in partnership with the Municipality of Varese, with the patronage of the University of Insubria and the Canadian Embassy in Italy, in addition to the membership of numerous realities, led by the municipality of Varese, who marched with the demonstrators with the councilors for culture Laforgia and equal opportunities Rossella Dimaggio.

The Varese Pride parade is part of a national and global movement: The Pride parade was born in June 1970, in Chicago and San Francisco, a year after the repression and clashes at the Stonewall Inn in New York, a meeting place for LGBT people. It later spread to all five continents.

It has been celebrated in Italy since 1994, the most important parades are in Milan and Rome, but the one in Varese is also taking its place in the list of events for LGBT rights.
