Savona Costa

– Yesterday morning, Saturday 22 June, an Italian cruise passenger fell while on board the Costa Toscana, suffering symptoms of head trauma.

The cruise ship, which left the port of Savona with destination Marseille, was sailing about 5 nautical miles from the coast at the time.

The on-board doctor, after having examined and assisted her, in the afternoon, through the International Radio Medical Centre, requested transfer from the ship for subsequent hospitalization in the nearest hospital, in this case that of Savona.

Having received the request for assistance, the operations room of the Savona Coast Guard called in the CP 863 patrol boat, on which, in the meantime, the White Cross personnel, previously alerted by the same maritime authority, were also embarked.

When the patrol boat arrived at the dock at 7.40 pm, the patient, accompanied by a family member, was immediately examined by the medical staff of medical vehicle 118.

Once the conditions were stabilized and the checks were completed, the woman, who remained conscious at all times, was transported by the White Cross ambulance to the emergency room of the San Paolo hospital in Savona under yellow code.

Port Authority – confirms that in case of need for assistance or rescue at sea it is possible at any time to contact the Coast Guard by radio, on channel 16, or by telephone on the toll-free number 1530 or via Nue 112.

The Port Authority – Coast Guard, thanks to its naval units and its air vehicles, guarantees the protection of human life at sea 24 hours a day and 365 days a year>>.
