And Pavia is dealing with “red zone” numbers

The province of Pavia is in the red zone. It is placed among the areas at risk by the Vega Engineering Observatory which analyzes accidents at work. In the first quarter of 2024 there were 52 victims in Lombardy (+6.1% compared to 2023) with a mortality rate of 7.3 against a national average of 8.7, while in Pavia the mortality rate of 12 .7 per million employed. Hence the red zone together with Brescia (incidence 18.2), Sondrio (13.4) and Mantua (11). Increasing, compared to the first quarter of 2023, in the province are fatal accidents “in itinere”, i.e. on the way from home to work or vice versa, which have gone from 3 to 5.

To prevent accidents, last autumn the Prefecture signed a pact for safety in the workplace in the province of Pavia, which provides for more checks but also for training and information activities. From January to September, a total of 3,290 checks were carried out, with inspections of 1,289 companies. In total, from 1 January to 30 September, 628 criminal sanctions were imposed (increasing compared to 459 in the same period of 2022), 11 administrative sanctions (3 more than last year), 65 suspensions of business activity ( against 49 in 2002) and 7 seizures (3 more than 12 months ago). From these measures, 763,341 euros were collected (compared to 656,387 in 2022) which will be invested in prevention activities.

“Safety in the workplace – the Uil confederal coordinator Carlo Barbieri recently said at the assembly of delegates, RSU, Rlst in the presence of the general secretary of Uil Lombardia Enrico Vizza and the category secretaries – is a challenge that not only involves us as a trade union organization, it also urges us as women and men who have chosen to make social commitment the characteristic feature of their actions. An injury and, worse still, a death, are not algebraic data, they are not a number on the blackboard, they are rather mirror of the social conscience of a country, of the list of priorities it decides to give itself, of the choices it makes in how and where to invest its resources, in how to intervene normatively”.

Uil provides a service against accidents through Ital patronage. “A battle that continues – concluded Barbieri – because we must achieve ‘Zero deaths and zero injuries’. This is why you must immediately report an accident through our assistance service to assert your rights and obtain the right compensation” .
