On Friday morning a woman, resident in Ischia, took the 8.40 hydrofoil to reach the central station bound for Milan where her son would be waiting for her. Once at the Beverello pier, the woman was approached by an illegal taxi driver who asked her if she needed a taxi: “I have an illegal taxi, we have to get by too”. After giving in to the man’s insistence, once she got into the car she was also offered a coffee. Despite the initial denial, the man went down to get a coffee for him and also brought it to her in the car.
“The coffee was long and had a strange taste” the victim later told the Carabinieri. From that moment on, the woman no longer has any memory of what happened to her. She was found in a confused state in a countryside near Via Nuova Poggioreale, robbed of everything. Personal effects, trolley and money. Her family members reached her at the Carabinieri station where they found her still suffering from the effects of the drugs: she “was mumbling and couldn’t stay awake”.
“My mother is still a little stunned now – declared Melania Di Meglio – but she is a strong and very reactive woman. We want to bring this case to light because we don’t want other people to find themselves victims of these criminals. For me it is absurd that in a place like the Beverello pier, manned by the police, the presence of such individuals is allowed who, also favored by the chaos of illegal taxi drivers, manage to carry out their robberies undisturbed. They target the victim, deceive her, drug her and then, as happened to my mother, abandon her like rubbish in the countryside. A terrible thing!”.
