PIETRACAMELA. After months of silence, the spotlight is back on Prati di Tivo: the municipal civil protection emergency plan has been adopted by the Municipality of Pietracamela, the reopening of the Madonnina cable car is awaited, which the manager assures “will be there as soon as possible”.
The municipal civil protection emergency plan was unanimously approved on Wednesday afternoon by the municipal council of Pietracamela, which also acquired the specific emergency plan presented by the manager and judicial custodian of the ski lifts Marco Finori. “The plan is ready and operational as requested by the Region,” said the mayor Antonio Villani, “what we had to give we have always done for the good and in the interests of the Municipality, the territory and the operators”. This is an important step for the reopening of the Madonnina cable car for which Coreneva, the regional technical committee on avalanches, after an inspection and testing by technicians which took place in the first ten days of May, granted the certificate of immunity from avalanches and therefore given the ok to reopen until September. Authorization which, however, had been granted in a pedestrian setting – subject to compliance with some requirements – last winter, but then the facility never reopened.
The custodian and manager Finori made it known that «from a technical point of view the plant is ready, the documentation is all there, even the land concession. We will reopen as soon as possible.” An announcement that once again gives hope to enthusiasts and above all to tour operators who have long been asking for the cable car to reopen in June, like last year, and not in August as happened two years ago. The reactivation of the plant is strategic to attract tourists, to plan and to make up for it after a winter with few visitors, which has been defined by some operators as «the worst in the last sixty years because, in addition to the closed plants, the high temperatures , therefore the little snow, did not even allow ski mountaineering to take place.” In the meantime, in recent days, the strong heat and the beautiful weather have brought back some movement to the Prati, but everyone is waiting for the reactivation of the system which can repeat the good summer of last year, when the cable car ran up to first weekend of October.
