This morning the Carabinieri of the ROS and the Provincial Command of Vibo Valentia, with the support in the executive phase of the soldiers of the Provincial Carabinieri Commands of Reggio Calabria, Pescara, Chieti and Turin, executed the precautionary custody order issued by the investigating judge, on request from the Anti-Mafia District Prosecutor’s Office of Catanzaro, against 14 suspects (13 in prison and 1 under house arrest), on the basis of the believed existence of serious clues regarding the crimes, respectively hypothesized against them, of armed mafia-type association, multiple murders, external complicity in mafia association, and other serious crimes, aggravated by mafia methods and purposes, such as extortion, cultivation of narcotic substances, illicit competition, disturbed freedom of auctions, robbery, weapons crimes.
The precautionary custody orders were issued by the District Magistrate of Catanzaro, Arianna Roccia, at the request of the deputy prosecutors of the DDA Annamaria Frustaci, Antonio De Bernardo and Andrea Buzzelli, with the coordination of the acting Public Prosecutor, Vincenzo Capomolla. The investigation that led to the 14 arrests concerns illicit activities concentrated above all in the Preserre Vibo area, and in particular in the municipalities of Acquaro, Gerocarne, Soriano and Dasà. A series of searches and seizures of movable and immovable property are also underway.
