Starting from July 1st and until December 31st, healthcare services for residents of Basilicata will be suspended in the Miulli ecclesiastical hospital in Acquaviva delle Fonti, in the province of Bari. The measure concerns scheduled hospitalizations, day surgery, day hospital, day service and outpatient activities. The interruption also includes service bookings and diagnostic instrumental tests. It will only be possible to carry out check-ups to continue the therapeutic process.
The decision of the Miulli hospital structure mainly concerns the border area, Matera and the province, from which there is a marked healthcare mobility from Basilicata towards Puglia. However, there is a lack of “boundary agreements” and the expected limits on reimbursements are quickly reached. Even in previous years Miulli has suspended its performances but towards the end of the year. For this reason, the Basilicata Region has decided to take action and announced a technical table between the general directorate for health and personal policies and the health management of the Acquaviva delle Fonti hospital. With the aim of “arriving at a solution that allows Lucanians to receive the right healthcare even outside the region”.
The table will deal with defining “the terms of the border agreement – the Region announced – which will have to regulate the issue of reimbursements for the healthcare services of Lucanian patients who use the Apulian hospital structure. The economic commitment of the Basilicata Region must be reflected in the correct use of hospitalizations to guarantee the Lucanian healthcare system to intercept user requests and the subsequent actions to be taken to strengthen the network”.
