Enter the I live the Lucas project, acronym for Lucania Environment and Health, which will allow evaluate the effect of production activities on human health and the environment.

This morning in a meeting chaired by the regional councilor for the Environment and Energy, Cosimo Latronico, with the general directors of the Lucanian health companies and Arpab, the activities of the strategic projects that will extend over the next five years were shared.

L’objective of the Lucas project is to build an epidemiological surveillance system and campaign, constantly monitoring health and environmental conditions to ensure a healthier and safer future for all. The project is designed in steps.

The the first involves monitoring environmental matrices (air, water, soil), the second the evaluation of ecosystems and the health status of resident populations.

They will be analyze all the environmental emergencies in the regionand, with in-depth monitoring in the eight areas of greatest risk (SIN Tito Scalo, SIN Ferrandina, SIN Pisticci, Val D’agri-Cova, Valle del Sauro-Tempa Rossa, Pollino-Northwestern Area, Enea-Trisaia Centre, Rendina waste-to-energy plant (Itm); Barile and Matera cement factory; Ferriera di Potenza; Mercure Valley).

The project includes Furthermore, a broad-spectrum health surveillance activity aimed at activating health policies spread across the territory.

The integrated study to define and correlate potential environmental risks to the health status of the populations residing in the targeted areas is financed with 27 million over 5 years as part of the agreements with Total, Eni, Mitsui and Shell and has also received the approval by the Scientific Technical Committee.
