For the second time in a row, San Marino beats more valid than Bologna and loses the game. The key, it goes without saying, was the greater effectiveness of the Fortitude in key moments, with our team coming within one ball of success but having to bow out in the first extrainning, the 8th, with a score of 4-6. A knockout that comes despite the home runs of Pieternella and Tromp.
THE NEWS. Pieternella makes it 1-0 with a solo homer in the 2nd, but at the beginning of the 3rd Bologna immediately turns the result around. Pomponi, who was saved with bases loaded in the 2nd, gives Agretti a base and a single to Paolini. Helder signs the sacrifice fly for 1-1, Martina gets a walk and Gamberini hits a two-run double for 1-3. The game ends for Pomponi, with Luca Di Raffaele closing the inning by eliminating Giacomini and Dobboletta at the plate. At the changeover, Tromp ties the game with a two-run home run (3-3). Tromp singles for 4-4, but Angulo is immediately out, while Alvarez has an intentional base. With the bases full and two outs, it’s Celli’s turn to face Bassani. For the center fielder, the count is immediately favorable (3 balls and 0 strikes), but the fourth ball, the one for the victory, doesn’t arrive and Celli is finally out at the plate.
We go to extranning and Bologna has the upper hand. Gamberini’s violent contact is not held back by Diaz, for Giacomini there is the base ball and Dobboletta makes them advance on a bunt. Fernandez’s subsequent single splits the game in two, which is worth two points and launches Fortitudo at 4-6. In the lower part San Marino only earns one base ball with Pieternella and the guests take away the victory.
