The Mayor of Velletri, Ascanio Cascella, has issued a press note to clarify the situation of the works in progress at Cairoli Square, which, despite a very brief interruption, continue at a good pace to complete within the expected deadlines.

The Mayor explained the reasons for the partial slowdown: “Some walls have been identified, which will be studied in depth by the competent superintendency”, declared Mayor Cascella. This discovery represents an important opportunity to further enhance the historical-cultural heritage of the city.

The Mayor wanted to reassure citizens that the works are not suspended. “The works will continue in the part not affected by the identified walls”, he precised. This allows us to maintain the expected timescales for the completion of the project, while ensuring the protection of the historic structures that have emerged.

In recent weeks, the Councilor for Public Works Fausto Servadio had given an interview to Castles News, explaining the importance and scope of the work in progress, financed through European funds from the National Recovery and Resilience Plan. According to the project, the interventions consist of the complete repaving of the square with modern and sustainable materials, the creation of new green spaces with plantings of trees and flowers, the installation of innovative and functional street furniture, the adaptation of the lighting systems for greater energy efficiency and the creation of areas equipped for cultural and recreational events.

Servadio recalled that the interventions will also involve a part of Corso della Repubblica and the new Covered Market, as described in the project by architect Francesco Leoni, winner of the design competition. The works are expected to last 210 days for a total cost of 917,688.05 euros, financed through PNRR and municipal funds.

“The Municipal Administration is committed to safeguarding the historical-cultural heritage of our territory and guarantees the utmost attention and care in managing the works in Piazza Cairoli”he finally underlined Ascanio Cascella. This declaration highlights the Administration’s attention and commitment to preserving and enhancing the historical testimonies of the past.
