thanks from Don Piero Albanesi

The response was unanimous and positive new website of the Cathedral of Carrara, www.duomodicarrara.it, by those present at the presentation, held at the Cathedral itself on Wednesday 19 June. The event recorded attentive and competent participation, with numerous guests and local authorities showing great interest in the project. One of the most popular aspects of the presentation was the virtual tour of the Duomo, although it is not intended for interactive use inside the building, where visitors can directly admire its wonders. Instead, it represents a precious resource for visiting non-accessible spaces and for those who cannot physically visit the Cathedral and wish to explore it remotely. The website was developed with the main objective of promoting the Carrara Cathedral at a national and international level. Offering content in multiple languages and intuitive navigation, the site will allow a global audience to discover the history, architecture and works of art of the Duomo, thus increasing the visibility and attractiveness of our precious monument. www.duomodicarrara.it, strongly desired by Don Piero, parish priest of the Cathedral, was possible thanks to the work of a dedicated and competent team. Special thanks go to Luca Galeazzi of Società Editrice Apuana and Luigi Conti of Microdata Sistemi, who designed the structure of the site and coordinated all the professionals involved. Their commitment, together with that of Davide Lambruschi and the late Giancarlo Paoletti (who wrote most of the texts), Ennio Biggi (who offered some of his splendid photos), and Michael Bertola (who created the virtual tour) , has allowed us to create a simple and accessible platform that fully enhances the cultural heritage of the Abbey. But applause must be extended to all those who contributed in various capacities to the project and who are mentioned on the “Acknowledgments” page of the site. Their support was fundamental to the success of the initiative, but it would take too long to mention them all here. And how can we forget the sponsors, the Cassa di Risparmio di Carrara Foundation and the Rotary Club Marina di Massa Riviera Apuana del Centenario, present at the presentation and enthusiastic to see such a complex project realized. The site will continue to grow and be enriched with further information pages (such as the “Chronological Route” and the “Spiritual Route”) and translations into multiple languages, making the Duomo accessible to an increasingly wider audience, and strengthening the cultural identity of the entire city of Carrara. The launch of the new site is only the first step of a path that aims to increasingly enhance the Carrara Cathedral and its extraordinary beauty. We invite you to visit www.duomodicarrara.it and spread the information to anyone who may be interested in discovering its secrets.
