Massimo Foghinazzi: “Varese-Gavirate axis for elite youth teams”. Ready for the open days

Challenges and objectives are essential to grow and improve, which is why 2024/25 season will be even more important than the previous one for the Varesedivided on one side by the ambition of return to the professionals and on the other of increasingly consolidate the youth sector.

Aspects that move hand in hand and the synergy with Massimo Foghinazzi is moving precisely in this direction given that the president of Gavirate has taken charge of the entire red and white academy with the aim of strengthening a movement that already starts from an excellent base.

He won’t be part of it Roberto Verdelli (arrived in Solbiatese) and could say hello too Massimo Scodellaro; consequently, there should be no shortage of innovations at the organizational chart and working group level. However, there is no rush and Foghinazzi himself begins with a joke: “Formally the 2023/24 season has not yet finished, so there is no time for official announcements. However, I can guarantee that we are at a good point at an organizational level and we are constantly working: there will be no shortage of news in terms of training and technical innovation, both as regards outfield players and goalkeepers.”

Will Verdelli’s farewell lead to other changes?
“I didn’t come to upset; indeed, I believe that Verdelli’s work is there for all to see and it is right to compliment him once again. There won’t be many releases and from a technical point of view, director Cosimo Bufano is at work although, I repeat, we won’t be able to move in a concrete way until July 1st.”

What basis will your project start from?
“From a youth sector that is already important in itself. Apart from the Under16s, which will participate in a Provincial championship, all the other years have already acquired the Regionals: it goes without saying that the purely sporting objective will be to keep them in U14 and U17, while in U16 we will have to fight to win them and in U15 , thanks to the amazing work of 2009, we want to be protagonists in the Elite category. The objective is to grow and it goes hand in hand with everything else: we must train our kids to allow them to perform at their best. The U18? We are monitoring the situation: if we do it it is to follow up on a training and growth path for the kids. If instead we have to do it just to plug some holes, then we won’t do it.”

As a football man, what does it mean for you to divide your time between Varese and Gavirate? Although at different levels, we are talking about two local sports institutions.
“It only means one thing: a lot of work (laughs, ed.). And all my passion and dedication will not be missing. Varese and Gavirate currently represent the best possible conditions in the province for a boy who wants to grow in the world of football. The opportunities we can provide in terms of training are second to none and in terms of playing we will be able to count on two realities, one in Serie D which aspires to return to the professional ranks and the other in Promotion where promising young players will be able to start gaining experience. Furthermore, let’s not forget the red and white National Juniores and the red and blue Regional Juniors: in other words we have everything necessary to accompany a young athlete throughout his entire journey. I repeat a concept dear to me: Varese and Gavirate are a big family and since there is one person, the undersigned, who can make decisions on both sides, I believe that the project acquires a unique value that is difficult to find in other realities. Even at the women’s level there will be no shortage of important innovations, always aimed at enhancing the athletes.”

Looking at Gavirate, the company was enriched with the announcement of a certain Alberto Brovelli.
“After a two-year hiatus he returned to football, and we are all grateful because we are talking about a person who represents much more than added value due to his quality, competence and ethics. These are life values that I have always tried to transpose into the world of football and Alberto will be fundamental in this because I am sure that he will give me advice and suggestions to help me in concrete terms. I would add that his presence will consequently be a further benefit for Varese.”

Returning to Varese, open days are scheduled from July 1st: what are the expectations?
“It will be an intense fortnight and the hope is to be able to find interesting profiles in order to increase the quantitative and qualitative level of the roses. We certainly expect an important response because Varese now has a structure that is the envy of everyone and which last year was still under construction. Varese is the provincial capital team, we have the obligation to raise the level and we expect a good influx. We are ready to experience an intense season with a smile on our faces and the desire to do great things all together.”
