Luca Barbareschi, Paola Turci, Premiata Forneria Marconi singing De André, Max Angioni, the Tony Award Stefano Massini: are just some of the protagonists of third edition of the “Summer in the Fortress” that from June 28 will crowd the Medici Fortress of Arezzo for a summer of music and performing arts. Concerts, theatrical performances, dance performances, book presentations and conferences organized by Guido D’Arezzo Foundation chaired by the mayor of the city Alessandro Ghinelli and directed by Lorenzo Cinatti, with the collaboration of Municipality of Arezzo, Officine della Cultura, Teatro Verdi Montecatini, La Filostoccola and Mengo Music Fest. Dozens of events are scheduled, with stars of national and international caliber from Paolo Benvegnù to Amanda Sandrelli, Giobbe Covatta, Rocco Papaleo and many others until the final performance of the masterclasses “Le Stanze dell’Opera” and the International Polyphonic Popular Competition, with choirs from the Germany to France, up to the Philippines, Indonesia, Poland, Hong Kong, to offer a unique and engaging experience to residents and tourists, making the Medici Fortress, with its history and charm, the beating heart of a summer full of art and entertainment (tickets on sale on the Ticketone e www.discoverarezzo.com).

Among the events not to be missed “Barba live” with Luca Barbareschi which inaugurates the exhibition Friday 28 June, an ironic, counter-current, pop and free theatrical show after two successful television seasons. “Barba live” is a journey into the culture of yesterday, today and the future with an intelligent and curious approach: with a sense of humor, Barbareschi catapults us into a world without the politically incorrect, without censorship and free to tackle compelling topics thanks to the powerful language of the band’s music Marco Zurzolo.
It continues on Friday 19 July with Max Angioni who returns to the theater with his new comedy show “Even less”a show in which the actor does not spare his proverbial self-irony to entertain the audience, an imaginative world through which small daily events and great existential questions are filtered, passing from memories of first times and great conquests to the questions more curious and original about history and the meaning of life.
A special event on Saturday 20 July: the famous Premiata Forneria Marconi, group born in 1970 in a mix of rock, progressive and classical music creating a single fascinating entity, sings De André forty-five years after the “Fabrizio De André and PFM in concert” tour. The prog band returns to stages throughout Italy to celebrate the successful partnership with the Genoese singer-songwriter with “PFM sings De André Anniversary” during which, in addition to the original setlist, songs from “La Buona Novella” completely revised by the band will be performed. Furthermore, the stage will see a spectacular lineup with three exceptional guests as Flavio Premoli (PFM founder) and the unmistakable magic of his keyboards, Michele Ascolesehistoric guitarist of Faber and Luca Zabbinileader of Barock Project.
And again on Thursday 25 July Paola Turci and Gino Castaldo in “The Time of the Giants”, a musical show to tell the beauty and power of Italian music in one of its moments of maximum splendor, the three-year period 1979-1981. Dalla, Battiato, Guccini, De André, Battisti, Daniele will be some of the protagonists of a pressing storytelling between words and music inspired by the book “The sky burned with stars. The magical season of Italian singer-songwriters” by Gino Castaldo.
THE PROGRAM
After the show Luca Barbareschi which opens the “Summer in the Fortress 2024”, we continue on 5, 6 and 7 July with Boarding Festival which debuts this year with three days of shows, concerts and workshops under the artistic direction of The Filostoccola which brings, among others, the show to Arezzo “Scoop (Donna sapiens)” by Giobbe Covatta (05/07 at 9.30 pm), which wants to demonstrate to us, with its irreverent and desecrating language, the superiority of women over men, and “Divertissment” by Rocco Papaleo (07/07 at 9pm), the show directed by the director Walter Lupoa sort of personal diary that collects thoughts from different days to browse.
Followed by the Golden Eagle Award – City of Arezzo on Monday 8 July, organized by Petrarca Gymnastics with the Municipality of Arezzo and Coni of Arezzo, for an evening dedicated to the values of sport expressed in everyday life. Now in its fourth edition, the Golden Eagle highlights the virtuous stories of athletes and personalities from civil society who, with their action, have proven to be positive examples of commitment and determination, resilience, ethics and fair play. During the evening, awards, music and moments of entertainment will alternate with the hosting of Sergio Sgrilli and with the special guest Igor Cassina.
At dawn Sunday 14 July the unmissable concert of Paolo Benvegnù signed Mengo Music Fest, While Wednesday 17 July on the stage of the Medici Fortress on Tony award Stefano Massini paired with Corrado Formigli in collaboration with Officine della Cultura as part of Smart Festival with the show “Titanic” in which, starting from the question “are there minimal, concrete, very simple rules to prevent the Titanic from hitting the iceberg?”, the ten rules are drawn up to save us from shipwreck, creating the opportunity for a meeting between different languages, that is journalism, storytelling and music. Accompanying the duo is the small orchestra that continues to play while the planet sinks, composed of Tazio Aprile on keyboards, Luca “Roccia” Baldini on the bass, Massimo Ferri on guitar and bouzouki e Mariel Tahiraj on the violin. Thursday 18 July, instead, the concert of Appino in the context of Mengo Music Fest.
It’s still Sunday 21 July edited by Officine della Cultura as part of the Smart Festival “The carnival of insects” with Amanda Sandrelli and Paolo Giovannucci who lend their voices to cockroaches, butterflies, bees, spiders and mosquitoes in a show of satire, puns and neologisms born from the creativity of Stefano Benni to discover a new point of view for restless humanity, a work between music and words that come to life thanks to the timbric eclecticism of theMultiethnic Orchestra of Arezzo.
Wednesday 24 July Silvia Mezzanotte will perform in a concert in honor of the famous singer Mina, whose masterpieces will be interpreted by the singer from Bologna. The concert is a production Verdi Theater of Montecatini. Special event that of Friday 26 July “Out of balance” during which six acrobats of the Eleina D. Company they will carry out an evocative performance with safety harnesses and semi-static ropes on the inclined plane in pre-established points of the fortress for a unique experience, thanks also to the collaboration of the guides who will accompany the spectators along the marked route.
It’s still, Saturday 27 July the conference of criminologist Roberta Bruzzone, a production Verdi Montecatini Theatre. Monday 29 July the final concert of the project will be on stage “The opera rooms”, a series of improvement masterclasses dedicated to young musicians and singers. During the evening, the most talented students who have shown particular learning skills will perform. July ends with the concert of Venus Of Wednesday 31st in the context of Mengo Music Fest.
Jonathan Canini’s comedy show, production Verdi Theater of Montecatini, inaugurates the month of August Thursday 1, While The “Guido d’Arezzo” International Polyphonic Popular Competition returns on Friday 23rd now in its seventy-second edition, during which choirs from all over the world will compete: from Germany to France, up to the Philippines, Indonesia, Poland, Hong Kong.
