Pesaro, Annarita Briganti presents her book on Maria Callas

The event, which falls within the scope of “Incontri Capitali”, will be held on Wednesday 26 June at Palazzo Gradari. The author recounts the life, successes and loves of the “human Diva” in the book on Maria Callas

PESARO – The life of Maria Callas, on stage and in her private life, her loves, her successes, her desire for motherhood, her humanity as a woman and an artist: it is a passionate portrait that the journalist gives us of the opera diva and writer Annarita Briganti in her book ‘Maria Callas. The human diva‘ published by Cairo Editore. The author will talk about it on Wednesday 26 June in Pesaro as part of the ‘Capital Encounters’ event in a conversation with the journalist Elisabetta Rossi (Palazzo Gradari, 7pm).
After the volumes dedicated to Alda Merini, Coco Chanel and Gae Aulenti, award winners and protagonists of tours in Italy and abroad, Annarita Briganti reconstructs the life of another great woman of our time in an essay that is at the same time a biography , an investigation and a reportage.

The book on Maria Callas is the result of careful field research by the author and makes use, in fact, of unpublished documents, studies and interviews with those who really knew Callas even off the stage: among others, Giovanna Lomazzi, Ferruccio Mezzadri , Nadia Stancioff, Ilario Tamassia and Pippo Zeffirelli. Also suggestive are the extensive passages of the letters cited in the volume: those of her husband Giovanni Battista Meneghini, much older than her and from whom she then tried to divorce when it was not yet allowed in Italy, of her family and her friends, by Pier Paolo Pasolini to Luchino Visconti. And then again the love at first sight for the Greek shipowner Aristotle Onassis, the unresolved relationship with the maternal figure, the desire to be a wife and mother: a portrait, in short, complex and heartfelt that Briganti outlines with the attention of the journalist and the writer’s pen.
The event will continue with an ‘unexpected meeting’: Gigliola Cinquetti, one of the most well-known and loved voices of Italian song, will be in Pesaro on Saturday 29 June to present her novel ‘Sometimes you dream’ (Rizzoli) in dialogue with the writer and sociologist Nando dalla Chiesa (Teatro Sperimentale, at 5.00 pm).
Incontri Capitali is a series of book presentations and meetings with the author promoted by Pesaro Italian Capital of Culture in collaboration with Passaggi Cultura, an association that organizes Passaggi Festival. Entry to the meetings is free while seats last. At the end of each meeting, the author will be available to sign copies.
