Wild boars are a disaster for agriculture: alarm from Coldiretti Umbria

Coldiretti Umbria raises its voice on the wild boar problem. Devastated fields, decimated crops, car accidents including fatal ones, siege in the countryside but also in urban centres. Without forgetting the serious problem of African swine fever, which threatens the pig sector. The presence of wild boars in Umbria (and in the rest of the country) is not just a problem for farmers, but for everyone. Illustrating the situation to the prefect of Perugia Armando Gradone and the prefect of Terni Giovanni Bruno, during specific meetings, were the president of Coldiretti Umbria Albano Agabiti, the president of Coldiretti Perugia Anna Chiacchierini, of Coldiretti Terni Dominga Cotarella and the regional director Mario Rossi , who announced the start of a mobilization aimed at obtaining timely and effective responses to contain the presence of wild boars. “A battle of civilisation, a question of primary importance and urgency – explains Chiacchierini – not only for agricultural companies, but for the safety of the entire community”. “Added to the devastation in the fields are also the health and economic problems linked to the possible spread of Psa” reiterates Cotarella. “The problem is long-standing and has dragged on for too long” states Rossi, underlining how “wild boars have caused hundreds of millions of euros of damage to Italian agriculture in the last year”.
