Ribera: The ANC at the commemoration of the foundation of the Bersaglieri in Agrigento

Tuesday 18 June 2024, at 6.00 pm, a representation of the Ribera section of the National Carabinieri Association, led by the president Marshal Cpl. Girolamo Angileri, together with the provincial coordinator ANC car. Giuseppe La Mendola took part in the ceremony commemorating the 188th anniversary of the foundation of the Bersaglieri.

The ceremony saw the participation of numerous civil and military authorities of the Agrigento capital, including the prefect Filippo Romano, the mayor Francesco Miccichè, the division general Maurizio Angelo Scardino, military commander of the Army in Sicily, and the provincial commander of the Carabinieri , Colonel Nicola De Tullio, who gave prestige to the ceremony. Also present was a representation of the section of the National Bersaglieri Association of Agrigento, organizer of the event, composed of the president lieutenant Andrea De Castro, the secretary cav. Salvatore Fucà, together with the board of directors and many members. The combat and military associations also participated, underlining the historical and symbolic importance of the Bersaglieri within the Italian Armed Forces.

The day was characterized by moments of reflection and emotion, with floral deposition in the area of ​​the Bersagliere Monument inside the Botanical Garden of the Free Municipal Consortium of Agrigento, in memory of the fallen. Commemorative speeches were read which retraced the heroic deeds of the Bersaglieri over the course of their long history. Known throughout the world for their characteristic plumed hat, the Bersaglieri are today a specialty of the Italian Army’s Infantry Corps. During the ceremony, after the raising of the flag and the Mameli anthem, the Bersagliere’s prayer was recited and certificates of recognition were awarded immediately afterwards. Participants had the opportunity to attend musical performances, which made the event even more solemn and engaging.

The Botanical Garden of Agrigento, with its beautiful landscapes and tranquil atmosphere, provided an ideal context for such a significant celebration, allowing those present to reflect on the importance of peace and historical memory, honoring the past to build a future improve. Since 18 June 1836, the Bersaglieri have been protagonists in the history of Italy, always faithful to the rules of their founder, General Alessandro Ferrero de La Marmora. At the end of the ceremony, light refreshments were offered.
