Italgas Reti wins the Atem Catanzaro – Crotone concession

The tender for the awarding of the service concession in the optimal territorial area for the distribution of natural gas (ATEM) Catanzaro-Crotone took place this morning at Palazzo De Nobili, headquarters of the Municipality of Catanzaro.

Following the usual procedure, given the receipt of two offers, the tender was awarded, provisionally for subsequent checks, to Italgas Reti, the leading national distribution operator.

The value of the contract is huge: 250 million euros for the twelve-year concession to develop and manage the natural gas distribution service in the Catanzaro-Crotone Atem, for which the Land Management sector of Palazzo De Nobili , the lead body and contracting authority, had called for tenders at the conclusion of a long preparatory process started in 2011 by decree no. 226 of the Ministry for Economic Development which had identified 177 Atems. The path was bumpy even afterwards, since already in January 2023 the Catanzaro Regional Administrative Court had to rule on the appeal presented by Italgas Sud on some aspects of the tender, in particular on some annexes.

The panel meeting in chambers on 18 January issued the order rejecting the precautionary application, setting the merits of the appeal for the public hearing on 20 September 2023.

The TAR had also rejected a subsequent appeal presented by 2i Rete Gas, the second national distribution operator, to request the annulment of the tender, starting from determination no. 1672 of 14 June 2023, adopted by the Municipality of Catanzaro which had as its object the awarding of service concessions.

The last decision of the Calabria Regional Administrative Court, which gave the green light to the tender, was in April 2024.
The Scope matters 107 municipalities of the provinces Of Catanzaro And Crotone and approximately 110,000 users. The interventions will lead to development of networks, including new methane systems. In total, the construction of an additional 800 kilometers of the network is expected, which already has a development of 1960 kilometres.
