Fire in a school in Taranto
A large fire broke out inside the headquarters of the Vico-De Carolis comprehensive institute, located in via Angeli Custodi in the Tamburi district of Taranto. Fortunately, despite the fear, no injuries were reported.
The fire generated a column of thick, black smoke visible even from several kilometers away, causing concern among residents and passers-by. At the time of the flames, the school building was empty, thus avoiding possible dramatic consequences.
Two fire brigade teams immediately arrived on site accompanied by two tankers, who worked intensely to put out the flames and clean up the area affected by the fire. In addition to the firefighters, the carabinieri and local police also rushed to the scene and secured the surrounding area to ensure public safety.
Given the seriousness of the situation, ARPA (Regional Environment Agency) was alerted to carry out checks on the level of emissions into the air and ascertain the possible presence of toxic substances. Initial analyzes revealed that the flames mainly involved the sheath covering the roof of the school, contributing to the density of the smoke.

The competent authorities have launched an investigation to determine the causes of the fire. At the moment, investigations are underway to establish whether the fire was caused by a short circuit, a malfunction in the electrical system or other circumstances. The school community and residents of the Tamburi neighborhood await the results of the investigations to understand the dynamics of the accident and prevent future similar episodes.
