Tension remains high at the Don Bosco park in Bologna, where the workers have returned to cut the trees on the embankment of Viale Aldo Moro for the construction of a new school complex which will have to replace the previous one. Environmentalists, who have long opposed the project and have tried to prevent the work, have released some videos showing how many demonstrators were forcibly moved by the officers. At least two activists climbed trees, while an ambulance arrived on site for at least one injured activist. An Italian boy was taken to the police headquarters because he allegedly “punched a mobile department operator” who was trying to make him come down from a tree. Another girl was also taken away “after hitting a Digos officer with a slap”.

Clashes and truncheons

The police reported that the clashes began early this morning, around 6am, with around 50-60 people belonging to the Besta Committee attempting to obstruct the work. The protesters, in fact, positioned themselves in various points of the park, preventing the workers from approaching the trees, in some cases even tying themselves up or sitting at their base. According to what the agency reports To say, some demonstrators stood in front of a car driving at high speed after the news, reported through a megaphone, that they were handcuffing a boy. At that point, truncheon attacks began against the students and the police chased some demonstrators for several metres. Despite the clashes, police confirmed that eight trees have been felled so far.
