Gallarate: Brawl at the station, 7 “DASPO Willie” issued

The intensification of surveillance and control services also to protect public order and safety arranged in Gallarate by the Varese Police Commissioner Dr. Carlo Ambrogio Enrico Mazza made it possible to develop an investigative activity carried out by the local Public Security Commissioner, which resulted in the referral, for various reasons, to the competent Judicial Authority of 10 subjects, one of which is a minor, for the crimes of brawling , carrying objects capable of offending and aggravated threat. Furthermore, against the same suspects, the Police Commissioner, following the investigative activity of the Anti-Crime Police Division, issued the so-called “DASPO Willie”, which will prohibit the daspati from accessing the premises and public businesses located in the center for two years. citizen of Gallarate and in the area adjacent to the railway station.

In particular, the Gallarate police station reconstructed the violent episodes of 3 June near the railway station, originating from a previous brawl between two opposing factions. The groups involved were made up of subjects of sub-Saharan origin and young North Africans, Albanians and Romanian people.

The analysis of the video surveillance systems showed that the faction of North Africans, Albanians and Romanians, after consuming alcohol and throwing bottles on the ground, headed towards the train station to clash with the other faction. The first contact was temporarily interrupted by some passers-by, but resumed shortly after with the use of bottles taken from waste bins.

A member of the North African, Albanian and Romanian faction was attacked by four from the sub-Saharan faction, one of whom hit him with a bicycle and another threatened him with a hammer. The events then moved to Piazza XXV Aprile and Via Borghi, where the two factions chased each other with bottles and a hammer. The intervention of the patrols of the Commissariat, the Carabinieri and the Local Police avoided further physical clashes.

During the investigations, a worrying tendency towards the recurrence of violent behavior emerged, with negative impacts on the perception of public safety, which is particularly alarming for citizens. The State Police also responded promptly in preventive terms, with the Police Commissioner issuing the “DASPO Willie” provided for by Legislative Decree 130/2020, which increases the penalties for brawling.

The daspati will be banned from accessing public premises and businesses in the affected area. Violation of the provision entails imprisonment from 6 months to 2 years and a fine of 8,000 to 20,000 euros.

The provision was issued against 7 suspects, all legal in the national territory, while a further 3 subjects are yet to be fully identified.
