The battle in the courtroom began early yesterday morning with thefinal approval of autonomy, after a river session that lasted the whole night. The oppositions are already ready to take the battle outside Parliament, starting to collect signatures for the repeal referendum. There are all. Italia Viva and Azione also join Pd, M5S, Avs and Più Europa on Tuesday together with Santi Apostoli for the united square against the reforms of the Meloni government. In short, the field on the referendum is extra large. A first step towards that “no more divisions” called by Elly Schlein at the demonstration in Rome in front of a square that loudly and repeatedly called for unity.
“They kept us in Parliament all night just to approve differentiated autonomy and brandish – Schlein wrote yesterday morning on Instagram – the scalp of the South before the run-offs. And so Brothers of Italy bows to the ancient secessionist dream of the League. I would suggest that at this point they change the name to Shreds of Italy. Or Brothers of half of Italy, since they are splitting it in two. We will continue to fight against differentiated autonomy and the premiership together with the other oppositions, as we have done last night in a united and very full square”.
And then later the secretary of the Democratic Party returns to pressuring Giorgia Meloni: “Meloni bowed his head to the blackmail of the League which threatened to bring down the government over Spacca Italia. And thank goodness he said he was not blackmailable.” Giuseppe Conte relaunches the criticism from the time when he was prime minister, in the right-wing camp: “They are splitting Italy under cover of darkness”, he writes on social media shortly before the final vote on autonomy. And again: “The Brothers of Italy, in order to bring home the premiership, gave in to the exchange with the League and to the approval of the differentiated autonomy which splits the country. They call themselves the Brothers of Italy but then divide the Italians into series A,B,C”.
Ready to collect signatures also Avs and Più Europa who with Riccardo Magi ask to get busy immediately: “The opposition should immediately get to work to build the referendum hypothesis and the government should finally make the platform for the collection of digital signatures accessible, as required by law for over two years”.
Absent on Tuesday in the square, Iv and Action are also on the referendum. “Italia Viva will also collect signatures against the differentiated autonomy reform – announces Matteo Renzi – together with those who want to support it. This reform is of no use to the north and hurts the south. We voted against it in the Chamber, we will be consistent in the referendum”. The party led by Carlo Calenda will also be in the game: “Action is ready to join the referendum battle”. With one warning: “The necessary quorum must be considered and at the same time avoid giving gifts to the majority”.
