Tomorrow the storms return: yellow alert from Arpa Piemonte

As expected, to the two decidedly summer days of Thursday 27th and Friday June will be followed by a decidedly more unstable and disturbed weekend. So much so that Arpa Piemonte has issued a yellow hydrogeological alert.

This is the picture outlined by the Piedmont Weather Centre: «Saturday will start with good weather at least until the first part of the afternoon with an increasing feeling of sultriness. But in the late afternoon (6-7pm) the triggering of storm lines is expected in the Alpine valleys, especially between Val Chisone, Val Susa, Valli di Lanzo and Valle Orco, then also crossing into Valle d’Aosta, with possible storms and possible large cumulative amounts”.

«The forecast for the high plains between Torinese, Canavese, Biellese and Verbano is decidedly more uncertain and complicated, where there is the possible formation of some even very strong storms towards the evening with the possibility of gusts of wind and even medium or large hail».

«In fact, the presence of Saharan dust at high altitude together with very strong currents at high altitude from the southern quadrants could inhibit the triggering of the phenomena, or at least reduce their intensity».

Hailstorm risk in Biella area

There is also a note from ZenaStormChaser, again referring to Saturday afternoon: «The areas favored to witness violent phenomena will be primarily the Canavese and Biella areas, with the risk of medium-large hailstorms». Obviously we are talking about episodes that could also be very uneven, with the classic “streaks” of hail that leave everything else unscathed.

Still unstable weather on Sunday

«In the early hours of the night on Sunday, the triggering of other lines of thunderstorms is expected in the Vco, especially in the upper Ossola valley and towards the border with Switzerland» explains the Piedmont Weather Center. The weather sites do not agree on the possibility of rain: some assume it is certain in the area too, while others mainly predict clouds and variability, but without significant phenomena.
