On the occasion of Summit of the Heads of State and Government of G7 which – from 13 to 15 June – met in Borgo Egnazia, in Municipality of Fasano in Puglia, to address major global issues, it was willing at level national the restoration temporary border controls internal land, sea and air, in relation to the high risks for internal security connected to the international scenario, undermined by conflicts, terrorist threats and disturbances topublic order and safety of an anarcho-insurrectionist and antagonistic nature.
Also to Ventimigliainternal border with France, were border controls restoredat all the former road crossings of Olivetta San Michele and Fanghetto, Ponte San Luigi and Ponte San Ludovico, at the A/10 motorway crossing and at the Ventimiglia railway crossing, manned 24 hours a day by the Ventimiglia Border Police and by reinforcement personnel from the Guardia di Finanza and the Italian Army, the latter employed as part of the “Strade Sicure” operation.
Border controls were activated as early as the 5th of this month and continued until 2pm on the 18th with checks that did not impact either road traffic or the movement of residents of this cross-border area.
In this period of time they have been 500 patrols and 1100 men were deployed to check 2500 people and 800 vehicles. However, the intensification of controls had already begun before, on the basis of the order of the Imperia Police Commissioner, Dr. Andrea Nicola LO IACONO, originated from the Provincial Committee for Public Order and Security chaired by the Prefect of Imperia – dr. Valerio Massimo ROMEO, aimed precisely at intensifying border controls for the big event.
The dense network of controls has borne fruit, allowing us to proceed with thearrest of 11 people, at the complaint on the loose 8 people and the seizure of 4 false documents.

- AK – Italian citizen of Slavic origin aged 30, multiple criminal convictions for predatory crimes, checked on board a bus coming from Marseille and headed to Rome, on board which he was traveling together with his 3 minor children and his wife, also arrested for possession of false documents. The man was hit by an execution order for imprisonment issued by the Public Prosecutor’s Office of Santa Maria Capua Vetere and wanted for 3 and a half years because he has to serve a sentence of approximately almost 3 years of imprisonment for a robbery perpetrated in competition in 2017 in Marcianise, as well as for resistance to PU.
- BZ – 36-year-old Algerian citizen, multiple criminal offender, checked on board a bus coming from Marseille, was hit with a prison order issued by the Court of Perugia which sentenced him to approximately 2 years in prison for theft by snatching and receiving stolen goods, crimes committed in 2020 in Città di Castello.
- HA – 23-year-old Tunisian citizen, with multiple criminal convictions, attempted to leave the national territory to escape the sentence issued last year by the Court of Modena to 2 years, 9 months, 25 days of imprisonment for theft and robbery in an apartment. However, the foreigner was tracked down by the French police in Menton without documents and therefore handed over to the Border Police for readmission. The investigations into his identity through fingerprint tests and matches in the databases made it possible to discover the pending charge and proceed with his arrest.
- The 32 year old Tunisian DA citizen, affected by the expulsion decree issued by the Prefect of Salerno with an order to leave the national territory issued by the Police Commissioner of Salerno and, above all, not to return for 5 years. However, the checks in the databases proved that the foreigner had left the national territory and re-entered it without any authorization from the Ministry of the Interior before this deadline. Therefore, he was arrested.
- Furthermore, a 24-year-old Moroccan citizen RK with multiple criminal convictions was arrested for robbery and 5 people for aiding illegal immigration, the latter in cooperation with the French Border Police – PAF of the Maritime Alps.
