Various interventions financed in the municipalities of the Trapani water association to deal with the water crisis in Sicily.
Overall, the total funding allocated to the ATI TRAPANI Municipalities amounts to approximately one million 377 thousand euros. The interventions concern Alcamo, Calatafimi Segesta, Castellammare del Golfo, Castelvetrano, Salemi, San Vito lo Capo and Trapani. The aim is to obtain approximately 150 liters per second of new water resources which will complement the current ones coming from both municipal resources and Sicilacque pipelines.
The latter company has already implemented mitigation works in order to obtain the same quantity of water historically supplied to the various municipalities.
The president of the ATI Water of the province of Trapani Francesco Gruppuso, mayor of Calatafimi Segesta, announced that in Monday’s session the assembly of mayors unanimously approved the proposal to hire, through a public notice, the General Director or an essential figure foreseen by the statute and which the ATI has never had.
He also informed the assembly that, signed by all the mayors of the Board of Directors, in recent weeks the end of the regional commissionership was requested which led to a stalemate in determining the type of management form and tender notice to identify the single managing entity. The response from the president of the Sicilian region Renato Schifani is now awaited.
Among the financed projects is the modernization of three wells in Bresciana, with the upgrading works and related ancillary works which will allow for an additional release into the water network of approximately 50 l/s. This project, for an amount of 196 thousand euros, concerns Trapani, Misiliscemi and the upper part.
Other works, again in Bresciana, will concern another well and the R2 booster station to obtain approximately 15 l/s. In this case the expected investment amounts to 130 thousand euros while another 63 thousand euros will be allocated to the Madonna well in Trapani for the replacement of the lifting pump. In this case the increase in flow rate to be introduced into the network will be approximately 15 l/s.
The other interventions also concern the following Municipalities
Alcamo. Revamping of the “Cannizzaro” spring water lifting plant, which will be upgraded until the full flow rate of the springs is exploited. The intervention, for an amount of 293 thousand euros, aims to increase the water supply by approximately 10 l/s.
Calatafimi-Segesta. Reactivation works with installation of pumps in 6 wells and related ancillary works for an amount of 64 thousand euros. The intervention, as partial compensation for current and future reductions, increases the water supply by approximately 6-8 l/t per second. Furthermore, the revamping of the pumping system is planned for the reactivation of the lifting system in the C.da Monte Patti station for 19 thousand 400 euros. The intervention should increase the water supply by approximately 3 l/s
Castellamare del Golfo. Modernization of the well in the Fraginesi district, for an estimated increase in water flow of 15 l/s and an investment of 114 thousand euros.
Castelvetrano Reactivation of the two wells “Agate” and “Ingrasciotta” and installation of ancillary electromechanical works for an amount of 774 thousand euros and an increase in water supply of approximately 20l/s
Salemi. Enhancement works on “Ulmi – FilciBagnitelli-Polizzo-San Giacomo” wells owned by the municipality. The planned investment amounts to 270 thousand euros and aims to increase the municipal water supply by approximately 16 l/s.
San Vito lo Capo Restoration of the “Sugameli well”, for a water flow rate of 5 l/s) and pump installation including mobile desalination plant. The expected investment amounts to 150 thousand euros.
