Extremely serious accident at work, agenda in the City Council approved unanimously: Entity will be a civil party

Following the very serious accident at work which occurred on 17 June in the countryside of Borgo Santa Maria, the municipal council unanimously of those present, in today’s session, voted on an agenda to ask the mayor Matilde Celentano to promote the constitution of civil party of the Municipality of Latina in the trial that will follow. an agenda approved before the entire assembly could know that the 31-year-old Satnam Sing died at the San Camillo hospital in Rome following his injuries.

Below is the text:

Today we are called to reflect on an evil that continues to undermine and corrupt our communities: gangmastering. A system of inhumane and dehumanizing exploitation that tarnishes the human dignity of vulnerable workers. The tragic episode that happened in Latina, where Navi, a young Indian, was abandoned by his employer with an amputated arm after an accident at work, highlights the brutality and indifference of this system.

Navi is an emblematic victim of a mechanism that, in the name of profit, treats human beings as disposable tools. Forced to work in precarious conditions, without security or rights, his accident is yet another terrible cry of pain that forces us all to stop and reflect on what kind of society ours is becoming.

Gangmastering finds fertile ground in the desperation of many migrants and people in difficulty, ready to accept inhuman conditions in order to survive.

This illegal system in which large-scale distribution imposes the rules of a sick market generates illicit profits for a few, to the detriment of the dignity and fundamental rights of workers.
Navi, like many others, is the victim of a complicit silence that each of us is instead called to fight, by aware citizens/consumers, who reward supply chains free from this scourge, but also by responsible administrators ready to encourage every useful antibody indispensable to create the only possible model, the one that puts the dignity of workers at the center of any market.

Let us raise our consciences regarding the horrible and inhumane act of abandoning a seriously injured person in front of their home, instead of taking the injured person directly to the nearest hospital.

Faced with tragedies like this, it is imperative to ask not only for justice for Navi, but also for a concrete commitment, also on the part of this assembly, to eradicate this phenomenon of modern slavery.

It is necessary to strengthen controls, guarantee the protection of workers and promote their integration into society. The institutions, the police and all of us citizens must do our part to break this chain of exploitation.

For all this we express solidarity and closeness to the worker who was the victim of the incident and to his family also through a press release on behalf of the entire City Council and we ask the Mayor Celentano to act as a promoter so that the Municipality of Latina becomes a civil party in the process that will follow the tragic news events of recent days. We also ask that the administration be present in all decision-making tables and in the competent offices for the fight against gangmastering.

The approved agenda was proposed at the beginning of the session by the minority groups. During the group leaders’ conference, changes were made to the text, as requested by the majority, which was then approved unanimously in the chamber.

Also from the Lazio Region, the first messages arrive from the world of politics.

“I learn with deep condolences that Satnam Singh, the 31-year-old Indian laborer who was seriously injured with the amputation of an arm following an accident at work which occurred last Monday in the Latina countryside, did not make it.

The man had been hospitalized at San Camillo in Rome in very serious conditions, where he died this morning, after being dumped outside his home together with his wife instead of being taken to hospital. I am saddened and will soon convene an ad hoc commission to stem the phenomenon of gangmastering. I hope for an exemplary punishment for those who, instead of helping this man, dumped him without mercy. Accident is a plague that we must fight together, without political and ideological distinctions, dignity must be the watchword. Now is the time to pray for him and for his loved ones who will be guaranteed all the necessary assistance”, says Angelo Tripodi, regional councilor of Forza Italia and president of the Lavoro alla Pisana commission.
