The Melucci Administration, represented by the Councilor for Social Services Gabriella Ficocelli, participated in the information meeting and press conference organized by the ASL of Taranto to discuss the guidelines necessary to deal with the heat emergency. The regional Civil Protection has in fact warned citizens of the imminent increase in temperatures, which on 19 and 20 June 2024 could reach 34-37 degrees, leading the Ministry of Health to issue alert level 2 for 20 June.
During the meeting, the advice and preventive measures disseminated by the ASL of Taranto were underlined, as well as the support activities that the Melucci Administration provides to people without a family network and to the homeless through the contracted services and the teams of volunteers of the local associations. Interventions that will be intensified during days of extreme heat include:
– Social Emergency Service (PIS) and Social Housing managed by the Noi e Voi Cooperative, with assistance upon reporting from social services, municipal police or law enforcement to support the homeless.
– Low Threshold Center managed by the Emmanuel Community, located in via Pupino 1, open every day to provide clothing, breakfast, showers and support.
– Caritas canteens and dormitories to offer meals and refreshments to the needy.
– Meals at Home for the Elderly alone and in difficult conditions, managed by the Cooperativa Solidarietà e Lavoro.
Councilor Ficocelli expressed gratitude towards the ASL of Taranto, in the person of the General Director Vito Gregorio Colacicco, and all the collaborators, associations and cooperatives of the third sector for their commitment in tackling situations of poverty. He also thanked the Social Services Directorate and the staff involved in the activation of local services.
