«The united South must react against differentiated autonomy»

COSENZA «The damage has been done and now we need to react. Differentiated autonomy is today a tragic reality that Southern Italy will have to deal with to counteract its negative effects. But we will have to know how to stay together and united.” This was stated by the mayor of Cosenza Franz Caruso who from the first hour opposed it with determination and strength «the unfortunate bill of the Northern League Calderoli which divides the country into 20 small republics and which will have disastrous consequences in the Southern Regions, already in great difficulty and with enormous economic and structural problems due to the historic gap between North and South, and which will bend the country, dampening any prospect of European and international growth and competitiveness”.
«Italy is shattering – insists Franz Caruso – the dictates of political, economic and social solidarity praised in our Constitutional Charter are trampled upon, dealing a very severe blow to the Municipalities and to the South which must now be able to respond firmly to what I consider to be a real attack on all its development hypotheses. For the ruling class of the South it is the hour of responsibility, contingent and urgent, in defense of its vast territory, of the entire southern population and of Italy itself which has no possibility of progressing and competing in Europe if it is divided , dividing up its forces. The time has come for the South to unite, unite and find the strength and reasons to stay together to stem the drift to which a centre-right far from the needs of Italians is leading us and which only pursues the consolidation of personal and party/ideological power. So much so that in exchange for the division of Italy, Meloni was granted ample power. It is no coincidence, in fact, while differentiated autonomy is definitively approved in Parliament, Giorgia’s premiership passes to the Senate which will represent, alas, a brake on democracy and freedom. From this perspective, it is necessary for the South to form a “system”, rediscovering the reasons for a common battle in favor of our territories to become the engine of the development of the national economy, making our South modern and attractive”.
«The South, united – concludes the mayor Franz Caruso – can and must apply to lead the processes of change in the country, reviving a history that has always seen us southerners as protagonists».
