There former Enel colony in Rimini it will be “downgraded” from “Marine colony of historical-testimonial interest of limited architectural value” to “Colony without historical-testimonial interest”, a necessary step to be able to intervene with a redevelopment project of the area. Accepting the request of the Municipality of Rimini, the Territory and environment commission chaired by Stefano Caliandro approved the council’s proposal to change the classification of the structure located in the hamlet of Marebello, in the south of Rimini. The commission’s green light confirms the commitment made last May 31st when it met in Rimini to address the issue of marine colonies present along the Romagna coast.

The provision is possible by applying regional law 24/2017, which allows the modification of the superordinate planning by the Municipality if it concerns a cartographic variant. In this way, without changing the objectives of regional and provincial planning, the range of actions that the municipal administration will be able to implement such as the recovery of green spaces and services as well as the improvement of roads is expanded. It will also be possible to demolish the building, making the area more usable.

The former Enel colony, built in 1950, has characteristics only partially similar to the pre-war ones and the numerous transformations it has undergone, today leave a building of no architectural interest. In all likelihood the original classification, attributed by the urban planning instruments, is incorrect: the study taken as reference has in fact erroneously dated the birth of the colony to 1932, in the midst of the fascist era, a date which may have misled the attribution of a value architectural and of a historical-testimonial value that in fact the colony has never possessed. To date, there are approximately 250 colonies registered on the Romagna coast, most of which are in a state of abandonment. The variant planned for the Rimini site will pave the way for other recovery projects.

“We arrive at the end of a significant journey which concerns the Rimini Municipality’s beach plan which is moving towards definitive approval and is linked to the tenders of the Bolkestein directive. The Municipality proposes a variant which we accept and concerns the classification of the former Enel colony”, explained theBarbara Lori, councilor for territorial planning and programming.

The councilor is satisfied Nadia Rossi (PD): “We kept our promise to bring the resolution to the Assembly next week. It concerns a very delicate issue for the coast. It is necessary to redesign the destination of these structures which cannot represent a black hole, in light of the investments made to redevelop the coast and the hotel structures”.
