LEGNANO – Between dances, chants and “hands up!” the two-hour concert by the Subsonic to kick off yesterday, Thursday 27 June, at Legnano to the 2024 edition of the Rugby Sound Festival. To warm up the vast audience arriving at theCastle Island for the Turin band’s live performance they went on stage first the little men and then the Norwegian duo Röyksopp for a DJ set taken off with “Control” and culminated with “Sordid affair”. The rapper will be the surprise guest of the evening Nextwhich has reached Samuel and partners for “The bubble bursts”.
Not a “Gunshot”, but a “Fistful of Sand”
“Now we have to conclude, we hope to see you again soon”, Torbjørn Brundtland and Svein Berge they pointed to the clock after 9.30pm and greeted the enthusiastic spectators to make way for the headliners and, as announced, their new album: «Somehow we feel at home in Legnano, we meet every two years. And today we are not here for a “Gunshot”but for a “Fist of Sand”». After the collective enlistment as “Astronauts” the time has come to “get into the heart of the concert and discover what’s in the Subsonica den”, from the dub of “Poison” a “Emotional microchip”; per “Free everyone” on the big screen they rose the appeals “Stop bombing Gaza” and “Stop bombing Ukraine”.
A summer song that hides winter inside
“Thirty years after the group’s foundation, we hope to have represented at least a small part of your life path: this is why we love being on stage. Who was there in the distant 2000?” was the question that transformed the Isola del Castello into a “Labyrinth Disc”, followed by “Rapid Clouds”. An opportunity also for remembering jungle music with “Jungle North”that «we used to go dancing when we were young and we danced a bit like idiots», until Samuel’s mistake, who interrupted asking to start again – «the words moved me, I’m a bit emotional» – on “Hail”: «A song kept out of the winter tour in the arenas because it’s too summery but which, like all our summer songs, hides the winter inside».
Who saves lives in the Mediterranean
After the dedication to those present, «you are ours “Universe”“, Ensi entered and performed the powerful “Number One” and the success of Neffa i Messaggeri della Dopa “Aspettando il sole”. With a recommendation: «Make this Rugby Sound Festival explode: in a propitiatory way, since it is the first night». From Max Casacci a call to attention: «We brought you fog, hail, lightning and porches. And you welcomed us by making us stay at home. The next piece is dedicated to the people who are at sea saving lives. On this, and on ethnic contamination, some politicians have built a career; while whoever saves other lives must slalom between bureaucratic constraints, with the financing that instead arrived between Libya, Tunisia and Algeria. This is how costly lies are constructed: an average of five people a day dying in the Mediterranean, the sea where we take our holidays. Everyone can think as they want, but when faced with this number one cannot think that it doesn’t exist “No fault”».
Kilometers and kilometers of “Roads”
The end of the show was approaching, with the accompanying choral threat from the audience: “If you don’t do the last one, we won’t leave”. “Ah, I’m sorry, but I wanted to do another four or five”, joked Samuel, who together with Casacci, Boosta, Ninja and Vicio He thanked “all the technicians in Italy – and ours, the coolest of all – because these stages are not built by themselves, but it is done for the love of music. Then the guys from the Rugby Sound Festival: I stopped early, but I could have become a great rugby player» and above all, with “All My Mistakes” and “Roads”, «those that time immemorial ago, after hearing a song on the radiothey went out to buy a record, they listened and learned the lyrics by heart – something I haven’t done yet – and you go kilometers and kilometers of the way to come to one of our concerts.
