Crotone, Sebastiano Aloia (CdQ Per Margherita APS): “A fundamental result has been obtained for the residents of Canale 19”

Yesterday, 18 June 2024, an important technical table was held at the Municipal House of Crotone, at the request of the CdQ Per Margherita APS Association and the Mayor Eng. Vincenzo Voce. The meeting had the objective of requesting the Southern Basin Authority to downgrade the perimeter area upstream of the railway and downstream of the SS 106 along the course of Canal 19.

Key figures from the municipal administration were present at the meeting, including the Mayor Voce, the Councilor for Public Works Dr. Parise, the Councilor for the Environment Dr. De Renzo, and the Director of Urban Planning Dr. Caroli with Eng. Damn. Dr. Gangemi and Eng. Ciccopiedi represented Public Works, while Councilors Antonio Megna and Danilo Arcuri completed the delegation from the municipality of Crotone.

Representing the residents, the President of the CdQ Per Margherita APS Association, Sebastiano Aloia, together with the Treasurer Eng. Francesco Brunetti, actively participated in the meeting. The Eng. Dario Tricoli, editor of the hydrogeological study on the Northern Contrade Areas and specifically on Canale 19, provided crucial technical details for the safety and downgrading of the area.

During the technical roundtable, the various parties reconstructed the story and discussed the numerous technical aspects. It was highlighted how the morphology of the area has changed significantly thanks to the interventions of the municipality on Canal 19 and of the region on the Fallao and Ponticelli streams. In light of these changes, it was agreed that the municipality will promote the request for downgrading from R4 to R2. The administration has committed to completing the second pier upstream of the railway in Via dei Gelsomini, an ongoing project which, according to Eng. Tricoli, will guarantee the downgrading of the area by the Southern Basin Authority.

President Sebastiano Aloia expressed great enthusiasm and satisfaction with the result obtained: “Thanks to this administration and all the parties involved today, hundreds of inhabitants of our area will finally be able to leave behind a nightmare that has unfairly settled into their lives. This step is essential to ensure the safety and tranquility of residents.”

Aloia also thanked Mayor Voce, the municipal administration, the officials, the councilors and the technicians for having taken this matter to heart and led it towards a fair and decisive solution. This meeting represents an important step towards the safety and well-being of the local community.
