Spending on durable goods increases in Molise: 339 million euros spent in 2023 (+5.9%)

In 2023, 339 million euros were spent on durable goods in Molise, 5.9% more than in 2022: better growth than in Sardinia, Basilicata and Sicily. According to what was found by the Findomestic Observatory (BNP Group) in collaboration with Prometeia, now in its thirtieth edition, the increase in spending on durables in Molise is however lower than the average 6.4% of the Southern regions and above all to 8.9% nationally. In line with the expenditure items of the South, Molise also appears dynamic in the growth of expenditure dedicated to motor vehicles, higher than the average Italian figure.
“The increase in spending, as in other regions, was mainly driven by the mobility sector,” explains Claudio Bardazzi, head of the Findomestic Observatory. “With increases of 18.8% in spending on purchases of new cars (49 million overall), 16.7% for used cars (100 million) and 27.1% for motor vehicles (10 million), a higher variation by more than 2 percentage points compared to the national figure”. Limited growth for household appliances (1.8%, 33 million) while consumer electronics (-29.1%) and information technology (-5.9%) collapsed. Other spending items on durable household goods also fell, with furniture falling by 0.4% to 91 million and telephony to 32 million (-0.9%).

EXPENDITURE FOR FAMILIES.
Molise families committed an average of 2,575 euros per household for purchases of durable goods: a value 255 euros lower than the Italian average, but 458 euros higher than that of the South. The province of Isernia leads the spending, with consumption of 2,711 euros per household, higher than the regional capital. Thus Isernia is positioned in 61st place in the ranking of the 107 Italian provinces, first province of all those in the South and ahead of the 70th place of Campobasso (with 2,524 euros of average expenditure per family).

ISERNIA FIRST PROVINCE IN THE SOUTHERN FOR AVERAGE FAMILY SPENDING ON DURABLES.
Positive and negative records for Isernia, the province where 97 million euros were spent on durable goods, 6.1% more than in 2022. A limited growth in the face of equally modest expenses which, as emerges from the data of Findomestic Observatory, place Isernia in last place in the ranking of the 107 Italian provinces for spending on durables in almost all sectors: new cars, used cars, household appliances, IT and telephony. Nonetheless, Isernia is the first province in the South for average household spending on durables, with 2,711 euros per household. In detail, in 2023 28 million euros were spent on used cars (+15.4%), 14 more than those used on new cars (+24.7%, 14 million, a figure three percentage points higher than the Italian average). The two-wheeler sector is also growing in line with the rest of the South, with 3 million spent for a growth of 27.8%, three percentage points above the national average. Definitely lower expenses for household goods. Appliances held steady with a total expenditure of 10 million euros (+2.5%) while purchases of furniture were decreasing, for which 27 million were used (-0.8%, 740 euros per family). Consumer electronics (TV) are also in negative territory with 3 million euros of purchases (-28.5%), telephony (-0.7%, 9 million) and information technology (-4.6% , 4 million).

IN CAMPOBASSO SPENDING ON DURABLES OVER 240 MILLION EUROS.
According to data from the Findomestic Observatory, the durable goods market in Campobasso saw a growth of 5.8% in 2023, with overall expenses of 242 million euros (2,524 average expenditure per family). In particular, the mobility sector led this expansion with 72 million euros dedicated to purchases of used cars (+17.2%) and 35 million in new cars (+16.6%). Two-wheelers in particular are accelerating, with growth of 25.4%, therefore higher than the Italian average, for a total expenditure of 7 million against 5 in 2022. In the domestic environment, household appliances are holding up well, with 23 million in total expenditure (+ 1.5%). The furniture sector, on the other hand, recorded a slight decline, remaining at an expense of 65 million (-0.2%). The consumer electronics segment suffered the most evident decline (-29.4%, 8 million euros), followed by information technology (-5.6%, 9 million). Slightly negative performance, but better than the national average, in telephony, with 23 million euros spent (-0.7%).
