Continuity on one side, discontinuity on the other. This, in extreme summary, is the main difference between two candidates for the office of mayorrespectively Laura Nargi And Antonio Gengaro. They themselves put it down in black and white in their electoral programmes. To get an idea of the political orientation of the two visions of administration and city, just read the incipit of their electoral pamphlets.
Nargi immediately clarifies that her program «is sinking solid roots in the incessant work of relaunching the city already started during the 5 years of the previous mandate” and that the objectives of the new union “will be based on the necessary continuity with what has been achieved so far to consolidate the results already achieved and the achievement of new and ambitious goals with respect to the challenges that the capital has in front of it.”
Gengaro’s vision is diametrically opposed and, not surprisingly, he titled his program “For a new Avellino”. Precisely in the opening lines, the political and associative forces of the center-left clarify that the choice to build a progressive coalition arises «from the shared awareness of the state of profound decadence in which the city finds itself, without an idea of itself and nestled in a mediocre precariousness that places her in the most absolute marginality, without ambition to connect to and a precise profile within the regional context».
The customs and valley
As per tradition, both programs are full of commitments, albeit expressed differently, in terms of the environment, mobility, social policies, development and culture. Digging into some of the individual points, different ideas and proposals emerge. Starting from the Customs, the restoration site of the ancient building in Piazza Amendola is in its initial stages after several false starts. Nargi, in the name of administrative continuity, confirms that he wants to transform it into a modern and functional center for young people with spaces for coworking, the presentation of books and small cultural events. Gengaro, to the intended use foreseen by the old Pics, adds the creation of a documentation center on the memory of the city capable of hosting the heritage collected by the historians Andrea Massaro and Armando Montefusco.
The former deputy mayor on the autism center in Valle confirms the inherited management project: with the University of Salerno, as partner and scientific coordinator, in agreement with the local health authority for the purposes of the best possible management, to connect it to the research center being built in via Morelli e Silvati. The Democratic Party representative, however, talks about granting the structure on loan for use to the Local Health Authority and of shared management between the health company and the family associations for the planning of services.
Former isochemistry
Also on the future of the former Isochimica of Borgo Ferrovia, which It is worth remembering that it is still being reclaimed, the proposals differ. Nargi imagines the city’s new trade fair center in place of the former asbestos factory, a completely re-functionalized and safe area as part of a broader vision in connection with the interchange hub of the east gate of Avellino and the railway station . Gengaro, however, like what happened in Casale Monferrato, wants to transform the former Isochimica area, among other things, into an environmental research center and a large equipped public green park. On the future of the Palace of Justice, the two, however, seem to agree at least on the need to propose viable solutions in absolute agreement with the court and ministry starting, however, from the awareness that a safe and decent structure will be among the priorities of the next mayor.
The new sports facility
Finally, on the new stadium, Nargi confirms that we will move forward with the construction of the 21,500 seat facility approved for UEFA, with gyms, shopping centre, restaurants. Gengaro, while sharing the need to equip Avellino with a new facility, rejects the previous addresses and proposes the creation of a sports citadel for the creation of public sports facilities accessible to all.
