For Refugee Day, a festival spread across the province

PROVINCE OF ALEXANDRIA – Il World Refugee Day will be celebrated on 20 Junean international anniversary promoted by UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency which in the provincial territory is experienced through a Widespread festival in Alessandria, Acqui Terme, Novi Ligure and Serravalle Scrivia. The event will focus on art as a vehicle for social inclusion and is the result of important networking between the bodies linked to the Community of Fermento and the Alessandria and provincial network of the SAI, the Integrated Reception System, which in the Municipality of Alessandria is managed by CISSACA in collaboration with the ERI ETS Foundation, while at provincial level it is managed in collaboration with the Cooperativa Sociale Crescere Insieme. It joins the Refugees Welcome Alessandria promoters, part of a national network active in promoting the active involvement of families and citizens of the local community in reception.

Fermento is a community of practices and knowledge that brings together various entities to promote the inclusion of migrant citizens, strengthening opportunities and services in the province of Alessandria for the benefit of all the most vulnerable subjects and the entire community. The Community promotes the festival through the participation of the group of entities representing the Novese area and a network dedicated to supporting families with a migratory background. The SAI is the reception and integration system made up of the network of local authorities for the implementation of projects
of integrated reception, in collaboration with third sector entities, access the National Fund for asylum policies and services. In addition to ensuring reception, assistance and
protection, contributes to building and strengthening a culture of welcome in city communities and promotes socio-economic inclusion paths for beneficiaries.

On the occasion of the Festival, each of the entities, with its own professionalism and by activating resources, contacts and funds, contributed to proposing a structured offer suitable for different age groups and
differentiated audiences, to create a rich calendar of events whose common thread is art as an element of inclusion, participation and positive reception.
“The community I would like” puts culture, heritage and art at the center as bridges that bring together and shorten distances, as a moment of exchange of shared experiences, as a space for
listen to the other and make ourselves listened to. Thus: an Italian course becomes a scenario for reading fairy tales from around the world to bring families closer together; a square, a great game of duck to make everyone think
box on our role as active citizens in promoting welcoming communities; a theatrical show, the opportunity to give a say to young people staying in reception facilities; film screenings, an opportunity to reflect on the meaning of “integration”; a book, a creative play laboratory for the little ones and their parents; painting, a workshop and an artist’s mural for a “coloured” city. And then moments of in-depth analysis, music and conviviality, with foods from the world and the social realities of the area.
All events with free and open access.
