Mourning in Arezzo journalism. Giovanni Melani passed away at the age of 80

The world of Arezzo journalism and also the business world are in mourning: tonight he passed away Giovanni Melani, a passionate reporter who throughout his life reported on sport and city news. He was also a point of reference in the insurance world: since 1967, after taking over from his father Rinaldo, he managed one of the AXA agencies present in Arezzo, and then dedicated himself to consultancy and representation activities.

Strong character, big heart, for everyone he was simply the Nanni. Football was his most intense love, sealed by a detail of which he was very proud, namely having experienced all the Amaranth promotions up close from the 1950s onwards. That of 1966the first in Serie B with Golia as president and Meucci on the bench, he remembered it with a special affection that he had never hidden.

For many years he was a correspondent of Corriere dello Sport, following Arezzo with frankness and competence. He helped pitch Teletruria in the period immediately following the foundation and he was there alongside Nedo Settimelli in the commentary of the match against Campobasso on 9 June 1985, that of Neri’s overhead kick. He then collaborated with various newspapers, including Arezzo TV in which he was the protagonist of a very popular program alongside Aldo Brunetti.

Melani, whose health conditions had worsened in the last period, had completed 80 years old the first of January. The entire editorial team sends our most sincere condolences to his son Giorgio, friend and colleague, and to his family.
