In 2023 third party logistics in Emilia-Romagna will be almost 11 billion euros (+5.7%)

In recent years the Italian logistics has accelerated in the strong change of some balances on which the functioning of national and international supply chains was based. In other words, logistics third parties is remarkably grown up in our country from the point of view of economic relevance. In Emilia-Romagna alone, for example, the sales logistics has achieved in 2023 a value of 10.9 billion eurosin 5.7% increase compared to the previous year, with a growth rate higher than the national average and in a sector which, in 2018, had a turnover of just 7.6 billion. Today the region stands alone 9% of third party logistics turnover in Italywith more than 400 properties dedicated to the sector and with another 500 thousand square meters under construction.

These are some of the results presented at the conference held in Sassuolo (Modena), at the headquarters of Kerakoll Group, on «Strategy, innovation and sustainability: the future of logistics». The study was carried out byObservatory Contract Logistics Gino Marchet of the Polytechnic of Milan, in collaboration with ITL – Institute for Transport and Logistics ER, Emilia-Romagna Region, Veneto Region And Axologistics.

Broadening our gaze to a national level, the Observatory’s research shows that in 2019 logistics represented 7.2% of GDP, while nin 2022 it went to 8.9%, with a value that rose from 119 to 157 billion euros. Third party logistics has shown an almost uninterrupted growth trend from 2009 to today, bringing the estimated turnover to exceed 114 billion in 2022. The three Northern regions are leading the way: Emilia-Romagna, Veneto and Lombardy constitute the 53% of the turnover of the entire sector and it is always found in these three areas 35% of companies providing logistics services organized in joint-stock companies in Italy.
In the Boot there is also one continuous growth in tertiarisation, confirming the increasingly important role played by logistics service providers. Third party services, which in 2009 represented 36.4% of the entire sector, in 2022 have become valid 45.5% of all logistics.

«The numbers show a constantly growing logistics chain and the regions involved in the conference see services of this type as an engine for the economic growth of the territory» he underlined Damiano Frosidirector of the Contract Logistics Observatory, while Andrea BardiITL General Director explained that «contract logistics in Emilia-Romagna in the last 5 years has recorded the greatest growth in employment compared to all other sectors of the regional economy».

«The commitment of our Region – he then declared Andrea Corsinicouncilor for mobility and transport, infrastructure, tourism and commerce of the Emilia-Romagna Region – is to make logistics increasingly qualified, safe and sustainable, encouraging modal diversion from rubber to iron through dedicated regional laws and the development of intermodal nodes”.

«We believe in the development of logistics from a regional and supra-regional perspective, across the board – he added Elisa De Bertivice-president of the Veneto Region – As a Region we have established the States General of North-East logistics, thanks to a memorandum of understanding signed with the Ministry of Transport, Veneto, Emilia Romagna, Lombardy, Friuli Venezia Giulia and the Autonomous Provinces of Trento and Bolzano , with the aim of having an integrated and coordinated logistics system.”
