Heat waves, orange alert in Viterbo

A few days before the astronomical entry of summer, the African anticyclone Minos took care of anticipating the heat. In fact, Tuscia and Italy are surrounded by a grip of heat which, if yesterday reached an average of 31 degrees, today will bring the thermometer even higher to 34 degrees at 2 pm.

Furthermore, since May 20th, the daily bulletin of the Alarm System for the prevention of the effects of heat waves on health, edited by the National Competence Center of the Ministry of Health in collaboration with the Epidemiology Department of the Health Service, has been operational again. of the Lazio Region and the Civil Protection. Which gives precious daily information on temperatures and risks for people.

Today the situation will get even worse with an expected average temperature of 36 degrees at 2pm but, in some areas of Tuscia, it could even reach 38 degrees.

In Viterbo, the orange alert level 2 is triggered. This is a condition for which high temperatures and weather conditions can have negative effects on the health of the population, in particular on the elderly and children. So here comes the advice from the Ministry of Health to limit the discomfort of excessive heat. It’s a decalogue: leave the house during the less hot hours of the day; wear appropriate, light clothing; freshen the home and work environment; reduce body temperature; reduce the level of physical activity; drink regularly and eat correctly; take precautions if you go out by car; store medications correctly; take special precautions in the case of people at risk (elderly, disabled and people with chronic diseases) and supervise and take care of people at risk. Institutional public intervention services are active on the topic of heat risks and, with the support of the Civil Protection and other voluntary associations, provide valid support for the categories most at risk. Temperatures that exceed 32-35 degrees in the shade are considered at risk. Among the most important advice is also not to consume alcohol and fried and heavy foods but to drink fresh drinks (not frozen) and lots of fruit and vegetables because they are rich in water. Limit coffee. Always consult your doctor for any symptoms directly or indirectly caused by hot flashes: these effects include tachycardia, symptoms of fainting, headaches and feelings of emptiness.
